This is an outdoors gamechanger

If you have read my reviews, you know two things I do a lot of, camping, and baseball games. I got this primarily for camping, figuring it would pay back in a year on ice savings. I also saw the versatility it would give us for long days at the baseball field.

I unpacked the cooler which was very simply, but safely packed with carboard molds and corner pieces. I then left it for the recommended 24 hours upright before using it.

I had it stored in my shed during a stretch of 90+ degree days, so well over 110 in the shed. My first trial was to take a room temperature soda in the fridge side and a bowl of water in the freezer side and see how long it took to chill the soda and freeze the water. I set the fridge to a 33 degrees and set the freezer to the minimum. I checked back periodically and it took probably an hour to get both sides into range, which seemed pretty reasonable to me considering the environment it was in. I should mention it runs very quietly, just the soft whir of a fan.

After a couple of hours the soda was cold, and the water froze as I would expect in my kitchen freezer. So this ISN'T one of those car coolers the chill 30 degrees cooler than the ambient temp. This lets you choose a temp and achieves it.

My next adventure was a baseball double header then next day with games at 12:00 and 2:30. The temps were in the 90s again. We loaded up the fridge side with waters, sodas, and sports drinks, and for a treat for the team between games, we loaded the freezer side with ice cream sandwiches.

I have power in the bed of my truck, and a small battery generator I could use at the field to keep the unit running. With the wheels and handle it was a cinch to go the few hundred feed from the truck to the field. We set up there and enjoyed cold drinks on the hot day. The team, and umps, were grateful for and ice cold treat between games. The only minor issue was the top layer of ice cream sandwiches were a little soft, so I rotated the items in the freezer about 1/2 way through the first game. It was extreme heat and I'm sure having a black cooler in only partial shade didn't help.

My narrative conclusion is this is a gamechanger for outdoor activities and it will pay for itself in ice savings in probably 1-2 seasons. Below are some pros and cons:
Pros:
Integrated handle and wheels
Having the top open in either direction is incredibly convenient.
Removeable tray for the fridge side
Lights on either side so you can see in the dark
Bottle opener
Looks great
Control panel locks so you don't accidentally mess things up

Cons:
It's black (see melted ice cream)
Wish there were separate doors for freezer side and fridge side
Control panel is a little confusing at first
